J.M.Calleja was born  in Mataró, Spain., in 1952. Visual poetry and performer formed in the world of the image (photography-cinema), the artist realised various experimental films (8mm) between 1976-81.

Active participation in many different Experimental and Visual Poetry events and exhibitions. Coordinator and curator of different creative events as demonstrated in books and catalogues. Organizer and participant in numerous international mail art projects and exhibitions. He had realised performances in Spain, France, Italia, Mexico, Brazil…

He had published in numerous poetry magazines: Doc(k)s, Commonpress, Daina, Vile, Poesía, Plage, Arte Postale, Cervo Volante, Views, Vltismo, Artefactos, Cultura, Faig, P.O.Box, Zurgai, Texturas, Offerta Speciale, Terrible Work, Farrago, Ánfora Nova, Generator Press…

J.M.Calleja  published many collections of visual poetry (Llibre de les hores (1981),  + que mai per als ulls (1988), Mixtures (1993), Transfusions (1996), C`o´ctel (1999), Alfàbia (2000), Desfilada (2003), Altri (2004)… ) and coordinated three anthologies: 17 (Spanish Experimental Poetry) with J.A. Sarmiento (1980), Poesia Visual (1991) and Poesia Experimental-93 (1993).
